Artist's Biography

Have you been in a group of people and one is always lagging behind? Matt is that person because he's looking all around—always seeking that perfect shot. Even when the camera isn't in hand, he'll point out some perspective or detail and the group lets out a collective, “oh, yeah.” Every group should have a Matt.

In Matt's words, “I like to show people things they think they already know — but in a way they haven't seen it before. By providing a unique visual interpretation to someone, they have the opportunity of experiencing a familiar sight as if for the first time. What gratifies me most is when someone gains a new appreciation for something they thought they already knew but had dismissed out of their memory.

Matt's first camera was his Dad's Canon AE-1. Dad was in the graphic arts and encouraged Matt in his fascination of capturing memories. The photo bug was first recognized when Matt was 14 and took so many pictures of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse that Dad found himself developing much more film than he anticipated when they got home. So began the journey …

Growing up, Matt was able to see most of the USA thus establishing a large visual memory at an early age. The camera was never too far away. In college, he studied the hard sciences and achieved a Master's degree in chemistry. With the analytical skills developed, photography became a natural pursuit.

Matt is a full time photographer offering various products including fine art photography and custom imagery work. Subject matter includes abstractions, architecture, scenic/landscape, and portraiture.
