Haleakala National Park is on the island of Maui in Hawaii. The Hawaiian name Hale-a-ka-la means “house of the sun”. Early Hawaiians, however, applied the name only to the summit area, the site where the demigod Maui snared the sun and forced it to slow its journey across the sky. This series of photos was made at an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet above sea level. The clouds at the bottom of the frame are a very unusual sight indeed.
It looks like you could walk on top of the clouds into the sunrise…
