Adams Family Farm: Barn & Silo

The American family farm has an important and tumultuous history. As populations grow and as technology changes, we find ourselves waxing nostalgic about what family farming used to be like. This romanticizing of history is coupled with the actual, physical deterioration of so many structures that once served important roles.

The contrast of this image has been enhanced to accentuate the effects of aging on these structures. My Father regaled me with stories of climbing that very ladder in the course of running the family farm. The silo stands next to a heavily deteriorated barn that used to be of a proud red color. As my Father speaks to me, I come to realize that the passage of time changes everything. I see the reflection of the aging wood in my father's face and am brought to reflect upon the thousands of American families who have been responsible for bringing food to millions of other families.
